By “complete healing” of piercing, we mean the time when the piercing channel is completely lined with new tissue.
Time to complete healing of the tongue: 6 weeks.
Time to complete healing of the lingual frenulum in the mouth: 3-6 weeks.
Rinse mouth 3 times a day with diluted mouthwash without alcohol ( Listerine, Corsodyl, Tantum Verde). Ordinary saline solution will suffice.
Brush your teeth at least twice a day.
The tongue swells a lot during the first 24 hours. The swelling begins to subside after 3 days and in about a week the tongue is normal again.
To reduce swelling of the tongue, rinse your mouth with cold water, suck on an ice cube and put on one extra pillow for the night so that your head is higher than your heart.
Do not strain your tongue unnecessarily and do not play with the piercings in your mouth.
For the first days after the piercing, eat a mild, not too spicy diet. Always rinse your mouth after eating.
Don’t smoke, or at least reduce smoking, the same goes for alcohol. The more you smoke, the longer the piercing will heal. Rinse mouth after smoking. Alcohol causes more swelling.
Do not drink from shared bottles and glasses with others until the piercing is completely healed.
Make an appointment for shortening jewelry after two weeks. Here, exchanging jewelry for shorter one is really very important!
